Walnuts

On the South side of the monastery stands a beautiful walnut tree. Our photographs here show the tree in late Autumn, after all the nuts have been shed.
Our North of Scotland climate is usually considered unsuitable for walnuts. And it's true: most years our tree produces soft and unformed nuts, scarcely worth the name. But in an exceptionally warm year, such as 2025 or 2026, the nuts abundantly shed in September/October are excellent. Maybe there are none better!
Last year, among so many other pressing tasks, no one found time to gather up our fine walnuts. But this year someone did make a determined effort not to lose this harvest - and then went on to prepare our walnuts for consumption.
How about a salad made with fresh chopped apples, all mixed up with walnuts (lightly roasted), with maybe a few raisins, and conceivably also a little celery too, served in a base of natural yoghurt, with a little mayonnaise to taste?
Delicious!
Surely good for you too!
