Pluscarden Abbey was honoured to host an official visit on Friday 6 March by His Royal Highness Prince Richard Duke of Gloucester.
This was part of part of an official Royal Visit to our County of Moray. The Duke came to us from Kinloss Barracks, escorted by our good friend the Lord Lieutenant of Moray, Air Commodore Alistair Monkman CBE.
The Royal Party arrived exactly on time, and began the visit by joining the community in Church for the singing of None at 2.30 p.m.
They were then given a rapid guided tour, including our beautiful new Ladies Guest House St. Joseph’s. This was all of interest to the Duke, who is an Architect by training.
All then assembled in our Chapter house, where a welcoming fire was blazing, for tea, home-made cakes and fraternal chat.
The Duke of Gloucester is a first cousin of our late Queen Elizabeth II. His father was a younger brother of King George VI. He departed apparently well pleased with his visit, and clutching a bag with gifts of Pluscarden Apple Juice and Pluscarden Heather Honey.
