Br. Daniel's Silver Jubilee

Thursday 3 July 2025 marked the Silver Jubilee of Profession of our Br. Daniel Morphy.

Our Bishop Hugh was with us for the occasion, and preached at Mass. 25 years ago, in the year 2000, Bishop Hugh was of course Abbot of Pluscarden: so it was he who received Br. Daniel's first Profession.

25 years on from that, Br. Daniel publicly renewed his vows at the special Jubilee Mass, and received the customary special blessing. The community celebration of this event could perhaps be described as somewhat simple and quiet: but certainly it was also very happy for all concerned.

Br. Daniel currently wears various hats in our community. His practical skills mean that he is the one who habitually fixes anything that's broken. Also: over the past years he has trained in carpentry and fine wood-work: producing among many other things some beautiful furniture for our Church. He looks after the Abbey grounds, notably the (non-vegetable) gardens and lawns; he manages various aspects of the day-to-day running of the house; he is on the Prior's Council; he takes his turn at all the regular duties in Church or house or kitchen; and of course he remains faithful to the daily monastic round of Choir, lectio divina, community life and work.

All of this is carried out with competence and reliable dedication: so its value is beyond price! In addition Br. Daniel always maintains his keen interest in art and literature.

Our pictures show some moments from the Jubilee ceremonies; also of one him with his Sister, standing before one of the flower beds he manages. For a reminder, we include also a black and white picture from the Archive of 25 years ago.
