New Abbot President

The General Chapter of our Congregation was held at Montserrat in Catalonia, Spain from Friday 30 August to Saturday 7 September.

Our Prior Administrator Fr. Giles represented the Community at this Chapter.

Br. Benedict Joseph was also present, as a translator of the French and English languages.

Also Fr. Bede, as Prior of Kristo Buase monastery in Ghana.

The Chapter has elected a new Abbot President of the Congregation.

He is Dom Ignasi M. Fossas, monk of Montserrat. Dom Ignasi will take the place of

Abbot Guillermo A. Tamayo, who led the congregation from 2016 to the present.

Dom Ignasi was born in 1960. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Barcelona (1983), but then entered the monastery in 1986, making his solemn profession 21 March 1992, and being ordained Priest 30 November 2002.

Dom Ignasi obtained a Diploma in Archives Studies from the Vatican Secret Archives in 1995. That was followed by a license in Theology in 1996, and a doctorate in Liturgy from the Pontifical Liturgical Institute of Rome in 2021.

He has served as professor at the Higher Institute of Liturgy of Barcelona and at the Theological School of Montserrat. He was a visiting professor at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome in 2015, 2017 and 2019. In the academic year 2006-2007 he participated in a Senior Business Management Program in Barcelona.

From October 2000 to the summer of 2016 Dom Ignasi was the spokesman of the monastery. He was also responsible for the monastery's nursing care (1996-2000), secretary of Fr. Abbot (2000-2005), bursar-administrator (2005-2011), sub-prior (2007-2011), prior (2011-2021), master of novices (2019-2021) and bursar-administrator (2021-2024). He is the author of several books and articles on liturgy, spirituality and monasticism.
