Work on our new ladies' Guest House, St. Joseph's, is progressing quite rapidly.
In one of our pictures given below you see 9 men working at once, not untypically, on the roof.
At the time of writing this news post, the roof's skeleton frame is covered by planks and a membrane, and the 5 North-facing Dormer Window frames are in place. The slaters are at work in a shed to the side, sorting out their slates, ready to start going on.
Meanwhile, less visible to the casual on-looker, work on the inside of the building is progressing. The space is divided up into rooms and corridors; plaster boarding is installed, and sound insulation; and pre-made double-glazed window frames are in place.
Above the entrance porch on the North side will be set Philip Chatfield's Agnus Dei. Then above that, in the apex of the larger dormer window, will go his carving of the Sleeping St. Joseph. This has just been completed. Philip has designed it so that the details could be observed, as they will normally be, from 40 feet away.
May the presence of St. Joseph procure for all who come here a sleep that is both deep and pleasant, and watched over by the holy Angels!
