70th anniversary of monks at Pluscarden

Friday 13 April 2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the first pioneer monks at Pluscarden in 1948. Abbot Wilfred Upson of Prinknash Abbey in Gloucestershire sent five of his monks to begin the twin work of founding a new community and restoring the ancient ruins at Pluscarden. They were Dom Brendan McHugh, Dom Ninian Sloane, Dom Maurus Deegan, Br. Andrew Prescott and Br. Cuthbert Swarbrick.

Happily the community still has several friends who remember that event.
We hope to celebrate with them more formally on 8th September, the 70th anniversary of the official Restoration of Monastic life here.
