The Annual Community Retreat was preached this year by Dom Paulinus Greenwood, Abbot of Chilworth in Surrey. The Retreat took place from 21 to 27 October. Abbot Paulinus took Wisdom as the theme for all his Conferences. He developed this under various headings: Wisdom in the Holy Rule; Wisdom in the Bible; the Wisdom of the Desert Fathers; The Wisdom of the monastic cell; the Wisdom of Jesus. The community is especially grateful to Dom Paulinus, in that he had suffered a family bereavement in the days immediately preceding the retreat, but went ahead with it anyway. We were also pleased to have this opportunity of getting to know a bit better the Abbot of a monastery belonging to our own Province within the Subiaco-Cassinese Benedictine Congregation.
