Blessing of our new Sanctuary Chair

On 22 April 2017, Saturday in Easter Week, in the presence of the community Fr. Abbot blessed a new Celebrant's Chair for our Sanctuary. The Chair was designed and made by our Br. Daniel, with the assistance of Robin MacDonald-Johnston, who gives regular carpentry lessons here.

The wood for the Chair was taken entirely from an old Elm tree in our grounds, felled after its unhappy demise, following the recent almost universally destructive plague of Elm Disease. Two features of the Chair may be especially worthy of notice: the use of a piece of bur wood, with its bark, of irregular shape, but polished to bring out its naturally beautiful interior markings. Also the curved arms, made from thin strips of woods, laminated and glued to achieve the desired shape.
